The Nuclear-Free Future Award was created in 1998 and honors people worldwide who work to create a world free from nuclear power and nuclear weapons. The award travels each year to a new destination around the world. It offers a cash prize in three categories — Resistance, Education, Solutions — and honorary awards for Lifetime Achievement and Special Recognition. The Award chooses to recognize the often unsung heroes whose achievements have surmounted isolation, lack of resources, threats and discrimination, particularly indigenous peoples on whose lands uranium has been mined or nuclear waste dumped. The Award events also include a public Think Nuclear-Free Symposium in which laureates present their work and engage in discussion.
Beyond Nuclear is the US affiliate of the Nuclear-Free Future Award and co-hosted the event with Green Cross International in Washington, DC in 2015.
